AKA Risk Management Specialists is based in East London, South Africa. Founded in 2005 by Kevin Wanliss and Alan van Dyl, we have grown to become a leading provider of SHEQ risk management solutions in the region.
Our team consists of highly qualified professionals with extensive experience in various industries, including mining, food, and construction. We are proud to have a diverse database of employees and associates who bring their expertise to every project we undertake.

Our Experience and Expertise
Extensive Construction Project Experience: Involved in projects spanning CIDB levels 1 through 9, with a strong focus on categories 6, 7, 8, and 9. Key clients and initiatives include ELIDZ, DPW, Department of Health, MBSA, CDC, and IDT. Notably contributed to the $9 billion Panama mining and construction project, handling project risk assessments and OHS governance submissions to regulatory authorities.
SHEQ Management Systems Expertise: Played a key role in developing, implementing, auditing, and certifying SHEQ management systems, including ISO 14001 (Environmental), ISO 9001 (Quality), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety).
Project Management Leadership: Integral to Project Management Offices (PMOs) and consulting teams. Served as Quality Manager for the Eskom “Back to Basics” Engineering Tools project PMO, overseeing quality management for over 200 consultants and conducting extensive construction health and safety monitoring.
Group SHEQ Management Role: Acted as Group SHEQ Manager for operations in powerline construction, steel manufacturing, galvanizing, and plant/equipment management.
Subject Matter Expertise for Maersk: Provided specialized Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) services to support Maersk’s internal audit functions.
Long-Term SHE Contractor Management Success: Delivered effective SHE contractor management for Mercedes-Benz South Africa over the past 9 years.
Customized Audit Services: Offered a range of bespoke audits, including those for contractors, transportation, Permit to Work systems, Management of Change, cyanide handling, ammonium nitrate, incident management, and HSE governance.
